our spectacular opening night event, Kupe or join in the fun at Porirua Schools Day.

SchoolFest is touring this masterful piece of local storytelling around the greater Wellington region. We will bring this show by treasured poet and storyteller Apirana Taylor directly to your school for free.

Kupe, the great Pacific explorer and navigator, is the hero of this lively, lyrical solo show. Legend has it that he discovered Aotearoa after pursuing Te Wheke-a-Muturangi, a giant octopus that was endangering his people’s fishing grounds in the Pacific. Students will be enchanted by this exhilarating tale of Kupe’s many exploits.

Ka Tito Au is part of A Waka Odyssey, the Festival’s celebration of our shared voyaging past and Pacific future. All performances will be followed by a 15-20 minute Q&A.

Commissioned by the New Zealand Festival by arrangement with Playmarket
