About New Zealand Portrait Gallery

The long, open building, built in 1904 as a waterside store, provides spacious and elegant surroundings for exhibitions and arts-related events. Look up and you can see the pulleys and beams which were used to move pallets and barrels through the building over a 100 years ago. The Gallery is located in the city’s cultural precinct and commercial heart. It is within walking distance of Wellington's Railway Station and bus interchange and numerous bus routes along Lambton Quay as well as Te Papa, Wellington Museum and City Gallery.
