The New Zealand Festival is a curated Festival. Artists are invited to perform by the Festival’s Artistic Director, Shelagh Magadza.

The programming of the Festival is an ongoing process. Shelagh will spend part of each year travelling the world in search of artists and performances to bring to Wellington. She works with companies and individual performers to develop projects and programmes, and this work is often done years in advance.

In 2016 The New Zealand Festival invited members of the professional arts community to join our Artist Register and receive discounted tickets to experience some of the most inspiring performing arts that the world has to offer. 

The Festival will be running the successful Artist Register programme again in 2018, and will advise when applications are open to apply here. Check back for more details in the coming months. 

The Artist Register will be open to professional artists, technicians and arts administrators working for a performing arts company, cooperative or ensemble, or as a freelancer in the professional performing arts.

Approved members of the Artist Register will be entitled to receive an Artists’ Card, providing the following benefits:

  • a 50% discount on one ticket (per performance) to a New Zealand Festival event on the day of the show if there is space available
  • a limited number of 2-for-1 tickets.
